Name the geometry
For round tube, lead with outside diameter. For pipe, use the nominal-bore and schedule convention required by the ordered standard. For square and rectangular sections, state both outside dimensions.
Define what may vary
Add tolerances for outside dimension, wall, length, straightness and section geometry where they matter to the assembly. If the standard controls them, cite the exact standard and edition.
Connect dimensions to use
Explain whether the product will be expanded, bent, polished, welded into an assembly or fitted into a mating component. Downstream work can change which dimensional controls are critical.
